TELE-LINK: Shaikh Wasiullah Al Abbas

translated by Sa'id Al Maghribi at Masjid Ibad Ur Rahman

Saturday, May 28, 2005: approximately 2:35 p.m.

QUESTION #1

SA'ID: If you wish, Shaikh, we have a question on fiqh for you. We have some companies that are called LaRiba (meaning no interest) and the transaction is the following: If you buy a house that costs $150,000 and you put $50,000 down and pay the rest over time, you would also have to pay the rent. Is this permissible?

SHAIKH: Do you have to pay the rent until you finish paying it off?

SA'ID: The rent money has nothing to do with the balance, it is additional.

SHAIKH: If someone buys something from someone then it becomes his property, why would he be paying rent? Is this rental money going towards the principal or no?

SA'ID: It has nothing to do with the principal, it is additional.

SHAIKH: If the house cost $200,000 and the rental money you pay goes toward the principal, this is permissible. If the rental money was separate, it was not included in the principal. Yes, it is riba and much more.

SA'ID: May Allah Reward You!

QUESTION #2

SA'ID: Shaikh, what is your opinion concerning Shaikh Muhammad Jamil Zeno?

SHAIKH: Shaikh Jamil Zeno’s aqeedah is good and what he writes is good. But when he was in Syria, he was not salafee. Praise be to Allah when he came to the Kingdom, he became salafee. I’ve known him for more than 25 years. He didn’t know Nasir Deen Al Albani, while Shaikh Al Albani calls to Tawheed and Salafiya, when he was in Syria, but when he came to the Kingdom, Allah guided him. His aqeedah is good and his writings are good. May Allah reward him.

SA'ID: Do you advise us to seek knowledge from him?

SHAIKH: Insha’Allah, May Allah bless you. (This means take knowledge from him.) All that we have found in his writing is good. Only good things came out of his books. You can take knowledge from his books.

QUESTION #3

SA'ID: There is a muslim family that has a conflict, concerning their son. The wife has been divorced for many years. She prevents the husband from visiting his son. Her excuse is he does not spend enough time with his son. What is your advice to these two people?

SHAIKH: She has no right preventing him from visiting. May Allah save you. She has no right preventing visits whether short or long. She has the right to ask for child support.

SA'ID: The father gives child support.

SHAIKH: He has a right to visit as long as he spends on his son. There shouldn’t be any harm between each other.

QUESTION #4

SA'ID: Can we take fiqh from Shaikh Abdur Rahman Al Jibreen?

SHAIKH: Leave these personalities alone. Take knowledge from the scholars who are well known in the Salafiya.

SA'ID: What about Shaikh Abdul Kareem Khadeyar?

SHAIKH: I don’t know anything about him.

QUESTION #5

SA'ID: We have some young people who are affected by the methodology of Shaikh Falih Al Harbi, what is your advice to them?

SHAIKH: We say that knowledge should not be taken from someone whose error is clear cut. As for the methodology of the one that talks about another with no proof or consider his methodology to be like the methodology of the Prophet (sws), that he doesn’t make mistakes and he follows him blindly in everything, this is not the methodology of Islam. If they were with him all the time even when he makes mistakes, this applies on anyone, they would not follow him. If he makes a mistake he should not be followed. May Allah save you.

QUESTION #6.

SA'ID: In the city of Marietta, in our Salafee masjid, we have a lot of laymen that our influenced by Ikhwanis and Tablighees Manhaj. How do deal with these people, Oh, Shaikh?

SHAIKH: Interact with them, do not boycott them. May Allah save you. As they attend the gatherings of Tabligh and Ikhwan, you should set up circles of knowledge for them. As long as they come to your masjid, Organize for them classes in Sunnah, maybe Allah will guide them. Would Allah guide a man through you, it is better for you than the world and what is on it. (Taken from Hadith) Do not anticipate that all of them will listen to you. All you have to do is convey the message. Do not boycott them and don’t tell them not to come to your masjid. But don’t allow them to give classes. If it is possible tell them that these matters that you mention have no Tawheed in them. But teach Tawheed and Sunnah in your masjid. We know that these two groups mentioned have wrong methodologies. May Allah save you.

QUESTION #7.

SA'ID: If a layman made a mistake concerning an issue in Manhaj, for instance, opposing the principle of Allu Sunnati Wal Jammah in regards to speaking ill about the rulers and revolting against the rulers from the mimbar and other than that. Truth was clarified to him but he showed obstinacy. How do you deal with individuals such as this?

SHAIKH: This one should be taught and if he was stubborn, youth should be saved from his harm. The youth may deviate. As for him cursing out and talking badly about the muslim rulers, this is not the way of the Salaf. Yet, you need to deal with this one gently. Tell him that in order for a person to be a good muslim, he needs to leave those things which do not concern him. This issue does not concern them. The companions, may Allah be pleased with them, they used to experience mistakes from the rulers, and they would advise them and explain where the mistake is. When someone asks them about them, they make du’a for those rulers. Likewise, the rulers of the Kufar, a person should only speak about those things that are beneficial.

QUESTION #8.

SA'ID: Concerning the scholars of Sham, like Shaikh Ali Hasan Al Halabee, Shaikh Saleem Al Hilali, Shaikh Muhammed Musa Naseer, can we take knowledge from them?

SHAIKH: These brothers we know them and they are salafee. In their aqeedah and in their deeeds because they were cultivated under the care of Shaikh Nasir Deen Albani. May Allah have mercy on him. Even though some of them may have some issues that they are to be criticized for. We look into that issue to see if it is deserving to be left alone. For instance, Shaikh Nasir Deen Albani said the person who forsakes the salat is not a disbeliever, we should not make this an issue for abandoning Albani all together. We take from him but we leave that issue. We don’t call him an innovator or say he is from Al Murjiaah. (Al Murjiaah does not believe deeds have to do with Iman.) As the Ikhwan accused the Shaikh to be. While they don’t criticize Sayed Qutb. We should have a scale that is we take from a person who is upon the sunnah what is correct and we leave those issues that are incorrect. For instance, Imam Al Shafee, may Allah have mercy upon him, he used to be of the opinion that it is permissible for a man to marry his daughter out of wedlock. This is known about him. Are you with me?

SA'ID: Yes.

SHAIKH: The imams did not accept the opinion of Imam Shafee in this issue. In this we should have a correct scale. May Allah bless you.
